Things to Know

CREDIT CARDS: We accept Visa and Master Cards.  A credit card fee of 4.03% will be charged

MONEY: We recommend you exchange your money at the resort. We receive daily exchange rates from the bank and don’t charge any fees.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Passport and return airline tickets are essential.  Most countries don’t require visas, but be safe and check with your local Fiji Embassy for Visa requirements.  It is recommended that you purchase travel insurance – just in case!

HEALTH: No Malaria is present in Fiji. Insect repellent is necessary considering the Resort is located on the beach bordering a lush jungle.

Sunscreen:  We recommend Zinc Oxide for the face and a waterproof sunscreen for the body.  Bring a rash guard or a wetsuit top for extra protection. All of our boats are outfitted with first aid and a phone in case of an emergency.

CLIMATE: Fiji has a tropical & humid climate.  Tropical rainfall can be expected during the wet season (December – April).  A year round average of about 30’C (85’F) during the day and 25’C (75’F) at night.  During winter (June to Sept) it is cool enough for long pants and a long sleeve sweater.

FIJIAN CULTURE & CUSTOMS: Dress appropriately outside the resort.  Men should wear a shirt, while women should dress conservatively.  A sulu (sarong or wrap around) with a shirt is acceptable for both men and women when visiting a village. Remove footwear when entering a Fijian home or hall. Going to Church on Sunday is an enriching and respectful experience.

Do not show up to the village uninvited.

Remove your hat & sunglasses when entering the village as a sign of respect.

GRATUITIES: Collective gratuities are accepted at check-out.  All our staff contribute to your stay, so we combine all gratuities and distribute equally to staff before each school year.

CHILDREN: The resort is ‘child friendly’.  The rooms are screened so there’s no problem with mosquitoes.  We have cots and single beds.  A king size bed, cot and single bed fit comfortably into each room.  We also have a pool and other activities so the children have lots to do. Babysitters can also easily be arranged for FJ $15 an hour.

Cots, high chairs and baby baths can be provided by the Resort.

What is NOT included?

Airport Transfers, organized activities (please see activities tab), bar drinks and snacks, special coffees (espresso, lattes and cappuccinos), laundry, massages, and gratuities.

Fiji is the center of the South Pacific.  It is serviced by flights from the Australia, USA & NZ.  Nadi International Airport is a pleasant two hour drive, passing through sugar farms, the small town of Sigatoka on the biggest river in Fiji, and the Fijian villages along the spectacular Coral Coast where the highway hugs the shoreline revealing picturesque bays and reefs.

Matanivusi Surf Resort is 3 kilometers past the village of Vunaniu.  The resort staff come from the village and are very happy to invite you to their village for a kava session.  If you do go to the village, be warned that there are cultural traditions that must be observed.  Resort staff will be happy to explain these to you.
